Demolition

Looks liek they are getting ready to start demolition. I don't know if I'll get in there to get some pictures in time (busy), if someone else can get some snaps that would be great. Chris 09:22, 25 May 2006 (EDT)

They're starting today? I was just talking with my wife about Ashton and all their grand plans for tearing it down that were halted by a budget freeze. I didn't think that had been lifted yet. Maybe I can walk over there near lunchtime and snap some pictures -Chrobb 10:23, 25 May 2006 (EDT)
Wow! I didn't even know. I guess they are old, but that old? I won't be able to get over there today either. -- Mark 10:29, 25 May 2006 (EDT)
I don't knwo when they are starting, but the chainlink fence is up already. They were built around 1946 to hold all of the new students taking advantage of the GI Bill to get a degree. Chris 10:32, 25 May 2006 (EDT)

Building Names

I gave it a shot, based on a few-years-old campus map. One of the problems here is that the use of each building varied over the years. So something that was singles for men only back in 95 may have been a sorority building in 98. They also repurposed the cafeteria building when they switched to the points plan in 99 or whenever. But even back in the days of all-cafeteria, 3-meals-a-day plans, Ashton had a half-ass cafeteria that didn't run during certain shifts on weekends, and you had to hike over to Eig or Teter to eat. --Jkonrath 10:51, 25 May 2006 (EDT)

Someone might want to take a snap of this before it gets changed: http://www.iub.edu/~iubmap/mapredirect.pl?select=BL313 --Jkonrath 13:02, 25 May 2006 (EDT)

There was a cafeteria building that I think was just called "Dining Hall" or "Graduate Dining Hall" that was more or less where Cypress Hall is now. It wasn't open for every meal service for a lot of the time when I was there; like I think it was closed weekends, and Ashton people had to go to Teter or Eigenmann. I only remember it because it was the first cafeteria I ever ate at when visiting the campus in high school. --Jkonrath (talk) 17:28, 1 June 2021 (EDT)
