William Showers

From Bloomingpedia

William Showers (May 28, 1846 - Jan. 1, 1919) was one of the founding brothers of Showers Brothers Furniture in Bloomington. He was married to Hanna Lou Showers. They had at least three children: W. Edward Showers, who married the former Bertha Matthews (daughter of Fred Matthews); Jennie Showers, who married Joseph Smith, and Nellie Showers Teter.

With the success of the Showers company, William Showers was able to purchase a 440-acre homestead northwest of the city, purchasing the farms of Clinton Houston and John S. Ridge. Along with the buildings, he spent about $20,000. The barn was visible from the pike and on it could be read "Weary Wood Farm-W. N. Showers."
