Mother Hubbard's Cupboard

Mother Hubbard's Cupboard is a food pantry whose mission is to provide healthful, wholesome foods to people in need, as well as nutrition and gardening education.

History

MHC had a modest beginning in 1998, and was only open two days a week from 1998 through 2000, when they accquired their non-profit status and moved into their current location by the Perry Township Trustee. The pantry is now open 5 days a week for 2 hours each day.

Programs

Plant a Row for the Hungry

To address local issues of community food security, Mother Hubbard's Cupboard works with Bloomington Parks and Recreation, Bloomingfoods, Hilltop Garden and Nature Center, the Hoosier Hills Food Bank and Worm's Way in encouraging gardeners to plant an extra row for a hungry family. The Food Bank distributes the donations. In 2004, the project raised over 8,000 lbs. of fresh produce. The initative has an information line on how users can participate at 349-3737. Some people use their plot in the Willie Streeter Community Gardens to participate in the program.
