The Lilly Library was dedicated on October 3, 1960 and houses a rare and unique collection of books and manuscripts which represents the combined resources of the University Library's Department of Special Collections and the private library ofJ. K. Lilly, Jr., given to the University in 1956 and 1957. The Lilly resides on the Fine Arts Plaza along with the Auditorium, the School of Fine Arts and Showalter Fountain.

Collection Highlights

  • the New Testament of the Gutenberg Bible
  • reproduction 17th-century printing press
  • four Shakespeare folios
  • George Washington's letter accepting the presidency of the United States (one of several copies made for distribution at the time)
  • original television series scripts, including:
    • Laugh In

    • Star Trek: The Original Series
    • Star Trek: The Next Generation
    • Mission Impossible
    • Wild Bill Hickok
    • The Addams Family

Monday through Friday 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Saturday 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM, Closed Sunday
