Lil Bub

From Bloomingpedia

Lil Bub (June 21, 2011 – December 1, 2019) was an internet celebrity cat from Bloomington. The runt of a feral litter, she was adopted by Mike Bridavsky, who began posting pictures of her on Tumblr in 2011.

Lil Bub was born with genetic mutations, including dwarfism, osteopetrosis, and polydactyly. This gave her a small size, shortened limbs, and a shortened jaw and lack of teeth.

After her pictures went viral, she had millions of followers on social media. Bridavsky began selling merchandise and appearing at conventions to raise money and awareness for animal shelters and special-needs pets. Her fund raised over $500,000 for the ASPCA, and continues to raise money for the Lil Bub's Big Fund, which makes grants to animal shelters and other charities worldwide. Bub was the subject of frequent media coverage, including a TV show, a documentary, and many news appearances.

In addition to online merchandising sales, Bridavsky also operated a brick-and-mortar store called Lil Bub's Lil Shop at 236 N Morton St.

The Bloomington Animal Shelter dedicated and renamed their cat colony after Lil Bub, and artist Mark Rice painted murals of Bub inside.

Bub passed away in her sleep on December 1, 2019, after suffering from an aggressive bone infection. Bridavsky continues to operate her charity fund.
