Janis Stockhouse
Janis Stockhouse (1955 - Dec 23, 2024) was an award winning music educator, trumpet player, and author in Bloomington. She previously was director of bands for 38 years at Bloomington High School North. She was one of the first women to be admitted to IU's Marching Hundred in the class of 1973, earned her Bachelor's of Music Education from Jacobs School of Music in 1977 and Masters in Music degree at Indiana State University. She became BHSN's director of bands in 1981. She was previous president of the Indiana Bandmasters Association, member of Phi Beta Mu, JEN, and board member of IAJE. She co-authored a book entitled "JAZZWOMEN; Conversations with 21 Musicians", published by Indiana University Press in 2004.
