From Bloomingpedia

COVID-19 is a infectious disease discovered in November 2019 and originating from Wuhan, China. It spread in the following months through the rest of the world and caused a global pandemic. The effects of the pandemic had many significant negative impacts on the world. Considering it's impact in Bloomington, starting in March 2020, many businesses, schools and organizations shut down or transitioned to remote work or attendance options. Indiana University transitioned to remote classes after their spring break recess and in the 2020-2021 school year was fully remote. The decrease in student population had a severe negative impact on Bloomington's economy, leading to several businesses shutting down.

According to the US CDC, as of June 2024, 1.2 million people in the US died from COVID-19. According to usafacts.org [1] In Bloomington, there were 27,629 reported cases of COVID-19 infection between 2020 and 2024 and 279 deaths due to COVID-19.
