David Baker

Dr. David N. Baker (December 21, 1931 – March 26, 2016) was a world-renowned composer, multi-instrumentalist, educator, writer, clinician, pedagogue, and Chair of the Jazz Studies Department at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music. He taught and performed throughout the USA, Canada, Europe, Scandinavia, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. He was also the conductor and musical & artistic director of the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra.

Mr. Baker received both bachelor's and master's degrees in music education from Indiana University.

The Baker Building, downtown is named after him, as is David Baker Avenue.
