Courthouse Square Historic District
The Courthouse Square Historic District is centered at the 1907 Courthouse Block and extends roughly a block in each direction. The district as a whole was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, and four individual buildings in the district are also in the register: the Monroe County Courthouse, the Princess Theatre, the Wicks Building, and the Waldron Arts Center.
The buildings facing the south side of the courthouse were deemed unstable. The owner of the buildings, CFC, Inc. retained the facades of the buildings but rebuilt the inside into Fountain Square Mall.
Buildings considered of historic value in the district include:
- Waldron Block
- Vance Music Center
- Fee Building
- Old Post Office
- One City Center
- Uptown Plaza
- Old Odd Fellows Building
- Knights of Pythias
- Buskirk-Chumley Theater
- Allen Building
- Faris Market
