Temperance Inn

From Bloomingpedia

The Temperance Inn was one of the first hotels existing in Bloomington. Started by J. O. Orchard and S. M. Orchard in the early 19th century, the hostelry was a noted landmark in town for more than 65 years. The ground it stood on, west of the railroad station and tracks, was later occupied by the George Benckart Store. It had an attached stable and was the headquarters of the Orchard Mail & Stage Coach Line.<ref>Bowen, B.F. (1914). "History of Lawrence and Monroe Counties, Indiana" 443-446.
