Talk:St Paul Catholic Center

From Bloomingpedia

Are the Newman Center and the St Paul Catholic Center really the same entity? Or is one part of the other? Chris Eller 19:30, 31 August 2006 (EDT)

The official name of the parish is "St. Paul Catholic Center" and it is the Newman Center for IU.

"Newman Center" is the generic name for a Catholic student center at a non-Catholic university.

Such centers almost always include worship space and a chaplain appointed by the local bishop. Sometimes they even include housing and dining facilities similar to a fraternity house.

I added "Newman Center" as a redirect so it would show up in "Category: Churches". My thinking is that anyone (for whom a Catholic presence is important) researching Bloomington regarding attending or working at the University or otherwise moving here would want to know about what resources are available. A knowledgeable Catholic would first look for "Newman Center" when researching Catholic resources at a university. Andy Kowalczyk 10:19, 1 September 2006 (EDT)
