Service Merchandise was a national chain of stand-alone department stores that last had a location in Bloomington at 123 S. Kingston Drive. The Bloomington store closed in the spring of 1999 and the building was demolished. Previous locations in Bloomington include the College Mall and Eastland Plaza. The College Mall location was situated where Smith’s Sport ’n Shoe and Applebee's currently are. The national chain dissolved in 2002 and later became an online business.
