Mysterious Boom on March 30, 2022

From Bloomingpedia

On March 30, 2022 at 12:43pm a boom sound of unknown origin occurred in Bloomington and throughout the region. At the time of the sound there were no thunderstorms in the area that would have been a likely source, except that a storm was due to arrive later in the day. Some initial theories included that it was a gas main fireworks, an explosion at Camp Atterbury or Crane, an electrical substation or transformer explosion, fertilizer storage explosion, a sonic boom from an airplane, or a meteor explosion. Most of the region of the mid-west was covered with clouds at the time so it was very difficult to see anything in the sky above the clouds. Representatives from Camp Atterbury and Crane claimed that there were no events at either base that would have been connected to the sound. Local authorities could not find any evidence of anything connected with the sound.

Meteor theory

Later in the day, two reports came into the American Meteor Society website from observers in eastern Kentucky who saw a fireball in the northern sky at the exact time of the sound. Other reports came in later that seemed to better verify this hypothesis.
