The Indiana University Data Center facility is a new construction at 10th and the Bypass that will eventually replace the existing campus computing machine room facilities. A four-fold increase in available space, the data center will be capable of delivering 5 megawatts of power to IU compute infrastructure.

The building will be slightly submerged below grade with a berm constructed around the edges. The facility is designed to withstand an F5 tornado. Its construction was envisioned by Michael McRobbie in mid 2004 when he was the Vice President for Information Technology. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on October 12th, 2007 near the recently demolished Creative Arts Auditorium that will be replaced by the data center.
