Henry Feltus
Henry James Feltus (August 13, 1846 - January, 1926) was a Civil War veteran and early newspaper editor in Bloomington.
He enlisted on Jan. 4, 1864 into Company C of the 13th Indiana Volunteer Cavalry, where he was eventually promoted to Sergeant-Major. He was mustered out on Oct. 15, 1865, with the rank of Adjutant of Regiment.
In 1872, he established The Weekly Star in Greencastle. Thence moving to Bloomington, he founded the Bloomington Courier, where he was editor and publisher until 1895, when he sold the newspaper to the Cravens Brothers Co. He founded the Weekly Star and circumvented a non-compete clause of the sale by making his son Harry Feltus publisher of the Feltus Printing Company.
He served as postmaster and on the Bloomington City Council.
Feltus married the former Catherine Ella Baird, and they had five children: Gertrude, Henry, Roswell ("Roy"), John, and Paul.
