John G. Earle

From Bloomingpedia

Dr. John G. Earle was a Bloomington physician in the late 19th century.

He came to Bloomington around 1880, living with James Rogers and later with Benton Weimer. He was known as the "tramp" physician for his peculiar habits and sunny disposition. He would often write free prescriptions for his needier patients.

It was rumored that Dr. Earle received a check for $300 each month from the estate of Cornelius Vanderbilt. His connection to that family was not known.

Dr. Earle was married three times, the third to his housekeeper, the former Mamie Stoute.
